"Bah! Humbug!"
Public school plight painted in shades of black and white
Updated: 11/07/09 8:38 AM
A bona fide horror story had its world premiere on Thursday night in the Alleyway Theatre. But there wasn’t a zombie, vampire or serial killer in sight.
‘The Box’ is an intriguing mess
Updated: 11/07/09 8:38 AM
How do you pad out a six-page short story that strives to be nothing more than a clever little morality tale into a feature-length film? By throwing in lots and lots of stuff—practically everything but zombies.

Metallica is still angry after all these years
Updated: 11/06/09 8:53 AM
I liked the album cover. It really was as simple as that. Not so much the artwork on the front of the package, which depicted an electric chair with the album’s moniker, “Ride the Lightning,” displayed with an alarming lack of taste beneath it.
Lopez, as host, brings some diversity to gab
Updated: 11/06/09 4:16 PM
Some of us love the little museum of promotional tchotchkes that lies next to the eastern wall of this paper’s features department. (It will premiere at 11 p. m. Monday and will run nightly Monday through Thursday.)
'Coco Before Chanel': A film with the same classic appeal as Chanel’s designs
Updated: 11/06/09 8:42 AM
“Coco Before Chanel” is a simple, elegant and well-crafted film with as much style and appeal as one of the iconic fashion designer’s legendary little black dresses.
‘Band guy’ Wojick plays solo (almost) for the first time
Updated: 11/06/09 8:52 AM
Some musicians seek out the solo spotlight and won’t have it any other way. Others, like Bruce Wojick, enjoy the collaborative effort of being in a band.
Cecelia’s: An elegant stop along the Elmwood Strip
Updated: 11/06/09 8:43 AM
It was a drizzly Thursday when Lindsay and I arrived at Cecelia’s on Elmwood Avenue. While the dining area was full of families and intimate couples engaged in conversation, we had no problem finding a spot at the elegant bar, black with quaint brown stripes and a blue, triangular neon design. A young gentleman wearing a black button-down shirt and dress slacks greeted us immediately.
